Women in PR: 2026 Shadow Board Recruitment

About Women in PR:

Women in PR advocates for greater diversity and increased representation of women in leadership across the PR and communications industry. As a not-for-profit organisation, we rely on membership fees to fund events, grow our impact, and deliver initiatives such as our Mentoring Scheme. Our volunteer committee works to champion change on key issues including sexism, racism, ageism, caring responsibilities and burnout.


Shadow Board opportunities:

We are recruiting 7 Shadow Board members across the following workstreams:

  • Membership (1 opening)
  • Social Media (2 openings)
  • Mentorship (2 openings)
  • Campaigns (2 openings)

We recommend applicants have 4–5+ years’ experience in PR, communications or a related field.


Time Commitment:

  • 1–3 hours per week

Expectations:

  • Attend the Shadow Board kick-off meeting and quarterly Shadow get togethers
  • Join monthly workstream meetings and quarterly in person get togethers
  • Deliver two progress presentations (at 6 and 12 months)
  • Attend at least three to four in-person Women in PR events annually
  • Act as an ambassador, representing Women in PR’s values to partners and stakeholders

Roles available:

Social Media Shadow Member (2 roles) 

Support and grow Women in PR’s LinkedIn presence. The Social Media Shadow Board member works alongside our Social Committee Leads, contributing fresh ideas and energy to our LinkedIn presence. This role offers the chance to develop skills, bring proactive ideas to the table, gain committee‑level experience, build networks across the PR industry and help shape activity that advances Women in PR’s mission. The WiPR social following has grown exponentially over the last few years, our mission is to keep this trajectory going, growing our average engagement rate and followers.

Key responsibilities:

  • Contribute ideas to the content calendar
  • Write and publish engaging LinkedIn posts
  • Engage with the community via comments and messages
  • Create visual content using Canva
  • Monitor and report on performance metrics

Membership Shadow Member (1 role)

Support recruitment, engagement, and growth of the membership community. As a Shadow Board Member, you will support the Membership team in promoting our offer and the benefits of membership, actively recruiting, onboarding and growing our community and creating content that helps drive membership.

Key responsibilities:

  • Promote membership benefits across channels
  • Contribute recruitment ideas and campaigns
  • Create content showcasing membership value
  • Support member engagement and insight gathering
  • Attend events to promote membership

Mentorship Shadow Member (2 roles)

Help deliver and enhance the established mentoring programme. The Women in PR Mentoring Programme exists to support women in progressing their PR and Communications careers. Now in its 12th year, the programme has successfully paired over 200 women with senior leaders, with alumni now holding leadership roles across some of the industry’s most influential brands and agencies. As a Shadow Board Member for Mentorship, you will support the Mentoring Leads to ensure the smooth delivery, continuous improvement, and long-term success of the programme, helping to raise the bar year on year.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support programme events (launch, check-ins, engagement activities)
  • Assist with surveys, analysis, and improvements
  • Lead mentee communications
  • Support content, newsletters, and social promotion
  • Contribute ideas to strengthen the programme

Campaigns Shadow Member (2 roles)

Support the development and delivery of Women in PR campaigns. The Campaigns Shadow Board Member supports the development and delivery of Women in PR campaigns by contributing ideas, insight and hands‑on support across priority activity areas. The role offers an opportunity to gain committee‑level experience, build networks across the PR industry and help shape campaigns that advance Women in PR’s mission. We campaign for all women across all stages of life. This year we will be highlighting ageism and caring as two issues particularly important to our members.

Key responsibilities:

  • Contribute to campaign planning and brainstorming
  • Attend campaign meetings
  • Deliver activity across areas such as media, partnerships, or community engagement
